As I grew, so did the meaning of my educational experiences. High School provided me the opportunity to be involved in ideas or topics that were previously uncharted. (Anatomy, Chemistry) These courses, along with a deep love for US history started to form me into a well rounded student. I would characterize this as being a jack of all trades, but master of none. However, in some instances I feel that some of that education was best used for knowing answers on Jeopardy.
High School provided the time for a multitude of extracurricular activities including football and basketball. I took away a great life lesson from football and the importance of good coaching. I played varsity basketball, not because of my ability, but more my desire to compete. I landed a spot on the team, performed well, and took great pride in making my team better. My basketball coach taught me the lesson that everybody will fall, but its how we react when we fall, that helps define who we are.
My basketball coach, and school assistant principal were most influential in my years of high school. These two men demanded more from me because they knew I was capable of more than I sometimes let on. I appreciate them for expecting more.
